Goblintool · Estimator

Estimator — how long will your list actually take?

We all underestimate. The Estimator goblintool reads your task list and gives a realistic time per item plus an honest total.

What is Estimator?

Estimator is a goblintool that assigns realistic time costs to common task types using keyword weights — emails are short, writing is medium, building is long — and adds a sensible buffer for breaks.

Why use Estimator?

When you say "I'll knock these out in an hour," you're usually wrong by 3x. Estimator gives you the honest number before your day collapses.

How to use Estimator

Type each task on its own line

Plain language is fine.

Click Estimate

Each line gets a time estimate.

Check the total

Includes a 25% buffer for breaks and context switches.

Re-plan if needed

If today's list is 9 hours, cut it down before you start.

Benefits

Frequently asked questions

How are estimates calculated?

Keyword matching: writing tasks get ~45 min, calls get ~30 min, building gets ~3 hours, etc.

Can I customize the weights?

Not in the UI yet — open the source if you'd like.

Will it learn from me?

No, it's stateless and private.

Does it work for project planning?

Yes, for rough sanity checks — not for billing clients.
